Most often you hear of visiting the “big guys” – you know, Split Rock Lighthouse, Gooseberry Falls, Tettegouche State Park, etc. But, maybe you are the type that wants to go to the places less traveled, see or find hidden gems along the way. Here is where those people are headed this spring. (and believe us, there are not many of them)

Palisade Head is just up HWY 61, and it isn’t really a secret destination, however – it has quick access from your car to the cliff, and has amazing views. Definitely worth the stop.

From there, we suggest you head to Crosby State Park. Manitou State Park is 14 miles from Highway 61, about 7 miles north on either MN Hwy 1 or Lake Co Rd 6, then east on Co Rd 7. When you get there, you can hike, or take the boardwalk around Bensen Lake.

If you head north on Co Rd 7, you’ll find Nine Mile Lake, which has some great (more difficult) hiking. This lake is made up of smaller lakes, and is sure to make you feel like you are on vacation.

For more information on any of these spots, ask the staff at Cove Point Lodge. They are always happy to help you find places to stop or adventures to take that will make your up-north trip one you’ll never forget.
