Executive Chef Richard Selz
Richard Selz has always had a passion for food and cooking. At an early age he was at his mother’s side in the kitchen helping with family meals, rolling egg rolls for his sister’s bat mitzvah and using her easy bake oven when she wasn’t looking.

A 32-year veteran of the restaurant industry he began as a prep cook at Leslie Reis’s namesake restaurant in Evanston, Illinois and worked around the country and up the culinary ladder. From Chicago to Santa Fe to Minnesota’s North Woods, Richard uses classic techniques to create modern interpretations of traditional foods from around the world. Lake Superior influences Selz’s menu; it is a big rambunctious lake and the food needs to stand up to that.

He enjoys motivating people to be their best through positive energy. Well versed in front of the house and back of the house operations, Richard finds ways outside the box, to solve complex organizational challenges.

In his spare time, Richard likes to cook, watch bad movies and read good books.

The Crossings started in 2003 on Minnesota’s majestic North Shore. From our origins as a corner bar with solid American pub fare we’ve been extremely fortunate to show host to thousands of dedicated eaters from locales near and far. Our values are uncomplicated.
