Why is winter a great time to head up north? The beauty when the trees are covered in ice, snow, and frost is unlike any summer view.  As you drive up Hwy 61, you will spot little remote cabins, local folks going about their lives, you’ll see skiers and snowmobiles, birds, and woodland animals.  In addition, you’ll have more views of Lake Superior.

So, what do you bring when there may be little to no snow by your home, and 12” up on the shore? Think like a scout and BE PREPARED.

The best part of a road trip is that you don’t need to worry about luggage fees and overpacking, so here is what we recommend.
  • Layers (Long Underwear, sweat-wicking socks (non-cotton), warm tops)
  • Jacket
  • Boots
  • Hat, Mittens, scarf
  • A thermal travel mug to fill with coffee or tea
  • Keep your gas tank above ¼ tank
  • A book, game, or activity to enjoy by the fireplace

Don’t worry, there is no need to dress to impress at Cove Point Lodge.  If you look like you just got off the slopes or trails, you’ll fit right in.
