Fall color gets plenty of attention on the North Shore. And we understand why. Golden birches, bright maples, and a drive along Highway 61 are a pretty wonderful combination.

But here at Cove Point Lodge, we have a soft spot for what comes next.

The leaves settle onto the trails. The pace slows. And Lake Superior—always part of the picture—takes center stage.

It’s a season for long looks at the lake, a few more layers, and a little more time by the lodge fireplace. If you’ve only visited during peak fall color, there’s another side of the North Shore waiting for you.

A front-row seat to Lake Superior

Some late-fall mornings begin with a smooth lake and a soft gray sky. Other days, the waves arrive with something to say.

At Cove Point Lodge, you have a front-row seat.

Take your coffee down to the lakeshore when the weather invites it, or settle into the lodge and watch the water from somewhere warm. Every lodge room overlooks Lake Superior, so even a quiet morning in your room comes with a view.

November brings the possibility of dramatic skies and rolling waves, but the calm days have their own appeal. Either way, it’s easy to spend longer than you planned simply watching the lake.

And that’s a perfectly good way to spend an afternoon.

Familiar trails, a different view

After the leaves fall, the woods open up. Rocky ridges become easier to see, bare branches frame new views, and the sound of your footsteps carries a little farther.

Head out for a walk around Cove, explore the Superior Hiking Trail, or make time for Gooseberry Falls, Split Rock Lighthouse, and Tettegouche State Park. With fewer people along the way, there’s more room to pause and take it all in.

Bring warm layers and choose your route for the day’s conditions. Then come back to the lodge with rosy cheeks, a happy heart, some great photos – and an appetite!

Make yourself at home

A quieter North Shore gives you a little more room in the day.

Read another chapter by the fire. Pour a glass of wine. Spend an afternoon painting, playing a game, or catching up with someone you’ve been meaning to spend more time with.

Take a dip in the indoor pool, warm up in the sauna, or settle into the hot tub after a day outdoors. Let dinner linger. Watch the daylight fade over the lake.

Tucked into a lodge room – or lounging in one of our cottages is the perfect way to end your North Shore day.

Stay for the quiet

By November, the North Shore has traded its bright fall colors for evergreen forests, bare branches, and an ever-changing lake.

We have the best views to wake up to!

We love the slower mornings, the sound of waves along the shore, and evenings when the lodge fireplace is exactly where you want to be.

Come spend a few days with us in Beaver Bay. Explore a little, linger a little, and see what Lake Superior has in store.

Stay lakeside at Cove Point Lodge—and make a little room for the quiet side of fall.
