It’s that time of the year. The crunch of the leafs under foot and the crash of the waves out on the point. The air is fresh and it we can begin to feel the cool breezes moving in.

Every season brings a different type of guest to the lodge and the ‘personality’ of the lodge changes. As we move into the fall season we get more people that like to go for a walk in the woods and then come back to the lodge, sit by the fire, watch the waves and read a book. We get small groups of women who come to the lodge for reunion or a moms getaway. We get families who want to stay in a cottage for Thanksgiving. The pace slows, the guests are relaxed and it is a time to relax and hang out.

As we move toward winter it is going to be interesting to see what happens with the wildlife. This past summer many of our guests saw wolf down by Split Rock Lighthouse; something we do not normally see in the summer, with all the people around. While it is unusual to see the wolf this close to the lake in the summer, we are wondering if this winter we will see an even greater presence of this animal along the shore. The greatest site of all is to see a wolf out on a floating section of ice on Lake Superior.

We have been busy cutting wood for the fireplace, and the campfire. And we always have our binoculars available to catch a view of the wolf if they should happen by. Stop in, the coffee is on and the fire in the great hall fireplace is waiting…..
