During November 1905 a terrible storm blew across Lake Superior. Thirty ships with crew were lost and as a result, Congress agreed to fund the building of Split Rock Lighthouse. 2010 is the 100 year birthday for the lighthouse and the restored facilities are located only a couple of miles from Cove Point Lodge.
